Z-Score Formula in Statistics

Z-score is used to know the difference of an event compared to its habit. The larger the raw number, the better the data value compared to the other value which has a smaller raw number.

Z-Score Formula in Statistics

Z = (x_i - X̄)/S

Information :

Z = Z-Score

x_i = x₁, x₂, x₃, ... , x_n

X̄= Mean of data

S = standard deviation

Example :

suppose there are data 2,7,8,10,4, and 5, with mean and standard deviation respectively are 6 and 7. Please find the z-score of 2 !

Answer :

x_i = 2

X̄= 6

S = 7

Z = (x_i - X̄)/S

Z = (2 - 6) / 7

Z = -4/7

Z = -0,57

So the z-score of 2 in the data is -0,57
